Provider vs Supplier

What’s the difference between a Provider and a Supplier?

To answer that question, have a think about your previous PPE, Workwear and clothing suppliers:

Did they provide you with peace of mind?
Did they send over quotes within a 24-hour period?
Did they go that extra mile to assure orders and situations were handled professionally and expediently?
Was there doubt in your mind as to where orders were?

Were your expectations managed with clear communications?
Did they put right any mistakes when they happened as quickly as possible?
Did they provide innovations to assist with complex ordering situations?
Did they provide reporting for cost centre analysis?
Could they provide reports to help with forecasting and future planning?

A provider will add value when working with their clients making sure the tasks set are handled. A provider does not focus on the next sale, the focus on building relationships and relationships can only thrive if there are strong foundations of trust, assurance and security that when they say they will do something, they deliver. This may sound fanciful however how valuable is your time? How valuable is your employees and colleagues time in terms of cost and productivity? Perhaps look at this way, how valuable is lost time when things don’t go as expected or take longer than communicated? What would you pay to ensure that working with an outside contractor is simple, straightforward and taken care of from start to finish? Suppliers will do exactly that, supply you with what is ordered.
However is that enough?
